English Translation.
American actor Larry Kert, who played the role of Tony in the original version of the Broadway musical comedy West Side History, died last Wednesday at his home in New York, at the age of 60. Kert had acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Kert and actress Carol Lawrence played leading roles in the musical comedy West Side Story, inspired by the play Romeo and Juliet, but set in mid-century New York, with the clashes between Polish and Puerto Rican emigrants. His work in the play led him to win a Tony Award, the first and only one awarded to an actor who replaced another [actor].
Between the musical comedies in which he worked he appeared in A Family Affair (1962), La Strada (1968), A Musical Jubilee (1975) and Rags in 1986, and that was the last work [*see note] in which he appeared. During his career he also performed in music clubs with the group Bill Nervas and the Upstarts.
